Malpelo Trip

June 9th – June 21st 2003

The crossing from David/Panama to Malpelo: First moderate wind and waves so we could do some sailing, headwinds and pretty bumpy on the second half.

Fresh wind from southwest, grey sky and not much sun during our entire stay, sometimes some heavy boat movement while on a mooring in Malpelo.

Always good visibility, current, every day encounters with schools of hammerheads in great numbers, silkysharks and whitetips, many schools of mackerel and tuna, manta and whaleshark encounters etc.
We tried hard but didn't see the giant sandtigers this time.

The highlight was probaply an half hour swim with a friendly 6 meter whaleshark who wanted to be very close to us.

Nice sail back in calm to moderate seas.

Great dive on the Hannibal Bank off the Panama coast on the final day.
