Every visitor needs a valid passport (for Costa Rica it has to be 6 month valid) and onward-ticket when arriving in Panama or Costa Rica but further requirements vary from country to country.
Members of most European countries only need to show their passports on arrival.
For Costa Rica visitors have to prove sufficient financial means, like US$ 400 cash per month or a credit card.
